Zoomy – Handheld Digital Microscope

Here at Science Sparks we are always on the look out for great new STEM resources and so were thrilled when Learning Resources sent us their new microscope to test

Zoomy is a brilliant, easy to use all-in-one handheld digital microscope which allows children to view objects close up.
Zoomy has 54x  magnification allowing children to see lots of detail even in everyday objects. Can you guess what these are?
Installing the software was very quick and easy, and then all we had to do was plug the microscope into the USB slot on my laptop and it was ready to use.

You can focus Zoomy by turning the top half and pressing the silver button on the top to take a photo or video. My 5 year old managed to use Zoomy with very little assistance from me and was intrigued by how different everything looked close up. She spent a very long time collecting things to observe, and asking us to guess what they were. You can see from the photos above how good the focussing and photo quality is.

All in all we have really enjoyed using Zoomy to investigate objects around our house and would definitely recommend to parents and teachers. Zoomy is a great addition to our collection of STEM resources.

Zoomy can be used with an interactive whiteboard for whole class discovery or with a computer, laptop, projector or interactive whiteboard via USB
