Win a Science Sparks book bundle

If you haven’t come across Science Sparks the book yet, it’s jam packed full of fun activities and investigations for Early Years and Key Stage 1 Science ( 3-7 years old ).

The book includes 40 exciting and hands-on investigations as well as extension activities, learning points and ideas to promote cross curricular learning. Each activity is safe and simple to carry out and includes materials already found in the classroom or home making it ideal for anyone looking for inexpensive ways to carry out science investigations. Scientific concepts are explained in simple terms making them easy for children to grasp.

Over the 7 years I’ve been writing Science Sparks, magnet wands and tweezers are some of my most used pieces of equipment and feature a lot in the book. The photos below show just a few examples of where we’ve used them.

Both the Learning Resources tweezers and magnet wands are very sturdy, easy to hold and extremely robust. I haven’t had a broken one yet and they’ve been used on an almost daily basis for years.

My little girl is quite young still but we have started to do things like painting with fruit, mini volcanos with soda.

We like to put an egg in white wine vinegar for a week to melt away it’s shell. It then feel really funny, like jelly. But very messy if dropped on the floor which we unfortunately did

The screaming jelly baby experiment. It’s a classic science experiment that uses potassium chlorate to oxidise the sugar in a jelly baby which results in coloured flames, smoke and a screaming sound.
