Pirate magnet maze – learn about magnetism

This is a really fun way to learn about magnetism. First, have a play to find out which objects stick to your magnets, what do you notice about them?

Can you gather together a set of objects and predict which will stick to your magnet?

Remember – not all metals are attracted to magnets, but iron and steel ( steel is mostly iron ) are.

To make a pirate maze you need:

  • Thick cardboard
  • A Magnet
  • Metal Paperclip
  • Cardboard
  • Pirate maze FREE from Twinkl

Draw a pirate ship on a small piece of cardboard and attach a metal paperclip. Place the magnet on the underside of the maze and use it to guide the ship around the maze.

If you didn’t want to use the Twinkl one you could always draw your own.

Magnetism

Magnets attract some metals and can be different strengths.

Magnets have two poles, we call them the north pole and south pole.  Opposite poles attract each other and the same poles repel.
